Case Study: CHAIN CONCEPTS, Durban - A Total Basement Makeover with the Revolutionary SANICUBIC 2 CLASSIC System

Project: Conversion of Basement to Factory with Toilet and Washroom Facilities, Durban, South Africa.

Challenge:

CHAIN CONCEPTS recognised the benefit of having extensive and spacious basement area lying beneath the office, workshop, and shop of their petrol station, which would need to be transformed into an operational factory area. However, fitting this area with proper toilet and washroom facilities was faced with one significant and specific problem related to drainage:

·       Location of Basement: The factory occupied the basement level of the building, whereas the older sewer pipes ran at the ground level.

·       Accessibility and Proximity: The new facilities comprising 4 toilets, 4 basins, and 2 urinals needed to be planned in such a way that they are well within reach of all staff members. Additionally, the facilities needed to be located as close as possible to the main work area to bring convenience and efficiency to all individuals working there.

·       Pumped Solution Required: It was necessary to have a pumped solution since there was a need to connect the various amenities located in the basement to the municipal sewer line which is at ground level.

Solution:

SFA South Africa, in conjunction with Black Wolf Plumbing, was able to install a SANICUBIC 2 CLASSIC lifting station to efficiently tackle and resolve the numerous drainage issues that had been experienced:

·       SANICUBIC 2 CLASSIC Installation: One SANICUBIC 2 CLASSIC lifting station was installed professionally within a specially designed sump in the corner of the ladies' toilet building.

·       Waste Pipe Connection: All the toilets, basins, and urinals were able to be connected to a 110mm waste pipe which is run under the floor. This particular waste pipe is then connected to the side inlet of the SANICUBIC 2 CLASSIC system, which is located below the floor level.

·       Vertical Pumping: Wastewater and sewage are pumped vertically upward, from the lower level to the ground level, i.e., one storey, with the assistance of a 50mm PVC pipe designed especially for the same.

·       Current Sewer Integration: The waste line that comes from the lifting station has been tied into the current 110mm waste line, which is used for both the ground and upper floor ablutions. The connection allows for effective delivery of the waste into the main sewer line so that all waste is effectively treated and carried away.

Advantages:

·       Basement Conversion: The fitting of the SANICUBIC 2 CLASSIC facilitated the effective and productive conversion of the previously unused basement area into a highly functional factory space, catering to specific needs and processes.

·       Successfully Overcome the Challenge of Vertical Drainage: The high-capacity and heavy-duty pump was highly effective in draining wastewater from the basement level all the way to the ground level efficiently.

·       Efficient Waste Disposal: The waste disposal system efficiently handled and processed waste from numerous various fixtures and ensured continuous and dependable operation at all times. Minimized Disruption: The installation minimized disruption to the existing building and day-to-day business.

·       Reliable and Robust Solution: The SANICUBIC 2 CLASSIC effectively delivered a consistently reliable and exceptionally robust solution tailored for addressing the challenging and demanding drainage requirements that were presented.

In short, The fitting of the SANICUBIC 2 CLASSIC lifting station at CHAIN CONCEPTS in the bustling city of Durban is a clear and strong indication of the exceptional success of Saniflo solutions in meeting and overcoming intricate drainage issues that are commonly experienced in many types of commercial environments.

Through the provision of a reliable and extremely efficient pumped solution, Saniflo was key to the successful conversion of what was once an unused basement area into a fully operational factory to enable the maximum use of the space available.
